The Bagel Store

Hello everyone! Hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season. I have a friend visiting NYC for about a week and we have been super busy with exploring NYC and their latest attractions. Recently we decided we wanted to finally try out the whole rainbow bagel craze and made a quick trip to Bushwick.

We stopped by The Bagel Store and ordered a total of 4 rainbow bagels with fun-fetti cream cheese. These bagels are not like a traditional bagel, they are whimsical and fun to pose with and of course to eat. This tastes a lot like fun-fetti cake with a hint of strawberry cream cheese. Next time I think I will opt for a regulare lite cream cheese filling since this to me was overly sweet.

If you can and are planning to make a visit to Brooklyn, then a little tip would be to bring cash because this is a cash-only place and they do not accept cards (but they do have a vending machine at the back of the store). This place is super small and crammed so we ended up taking our bagels to go and headed back home before they got cold. To get here just take the L train to Graham Ave and the store will be right there. Hope you all have an amazing rest of the year and Happy New Year!

The Smith

The Smith has quickly become my go-to spot for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. It's very rare for me to eat at a restaurant more than once since I love to explore new restaurants on a weekly basis. If it were up to my boyfriend then he would have all of our dates at The Smith since it is his favorite place to eat and he always ordered his favorite, the Burger Royale. Their menu is not extensive by any means but it does have all the right options for almost any dietary restrictions.

On both occasions, I have ordered something completely different. During my first trip I decided to order a side of home fries, strawberry waffles, and a passion punch cocktail. At first glance I was really happy with their presentation and everything we ordered looked and smelled delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with their organic ketchup and the way everything just melted into my mouth. Atmosphere wise, this place does get really crowded and if you are a party of two then you will practically be sitting next to another couple only inches away. Since this place does get crowded, especially for brunch, it is a bit noisy but not overly noisy that you cannot have a conversation.

This place looks classy but everyone who arrives has a different style of their own so there is no need to worry about what you are wearing since I am sure everyone comes here for the food and not to judge your outfit (so yea wear those sweatpants and hoodie if you really want to). By no means is this place a hole in the wall! It is a true gem smack in the middle of 51st street and 2nd ave making it a popular spot for tourists and residents.
During my second visit, I decided to go towards the heftier side of brunch and order a BLT+E sandwich on a croissant with plain fries. This to me was my guilty pleasure that I will most likely never order again because of the unhealthy calories that it contains (yes I looked up the calories online AFTER I was done with my meal). Their fries are cooked to a crisp and are very addicting since I had to force myself to stop since I knew I was beyond full after my sandwich.

If you are planning to tying this place our for any meal of the day, I highly suggest you make reservations since we did have to wait about 45 minutes the first time we ate here. Reservations can fill up fast so I suggest booking a day in advance. The Smith has various locations around the city so check out their website HERE. The Smith also has locations in Washington, DC along with other locations that are scheduled to open soon. I cannot wait to return this upcoming Thursday and perhaps order some home fried and waffles again.
Till next time!

Cruelty Free Makeup!

My Makeup Collection

What is cruelty free makeup? This is the question that gets asked by most beauty lovers who want to only buy products that are not tested on animals. Cruelty-free is a term used by companies who's products do not harm or test on animals during development. The act of harming/killing animals can be done by companies who use either lab rats or bunnies to test their products in order to make sure that their products are safe for human use. During creation, these products can become harmful and even cause death to millions of animals per year.

While going through my makeup collection, I noticed that there were some products that had a bunny silhouette and that intrigued me into learning more about which of my products were or weren't tested on animals. I have come across the PETA website where you are able to input a brand and it instantly let's you know whether that company tests on animals. You can check out their website HERE and perhaps start doing some digging of your own if you are interested in going cruelty-free. If you are a person who is always shopping for makeup and wants to know whether your makeup is cruelty-free then I suggest you download their app straight to your phone HERE. The Leaping Bunny Program is another website where you can directly search up brands that the program approves, you can check out their website HERE or download their app HERE

I am surprised to know that the majority of drugstore beauty brands such as Maybelline, Revlon, L'Oreal, and Neutrogena are not cruelty-free. I was also surprised to find out the NYX products which is owned by L'Oreal is in fact cruelty-free and they DO NOT test on animals. I think it is important for people to become aware of the dangers that their beauty products bring to animals and should reconsider purchasing from companies that test on animals. I still have a lot of makeup in my collection to go through and know which makeup brands I will no longer be purchasing from. Let's educate others and make this world into a better place one beauty product at a time and remember to always leave a little sparkle wherever you go.

Essential Fall Taupe Boots

Today's post is dedicated to these faux suede taupe boots. This past Cyber Monday I decided it was time to switch out my "shoe wardrobe" and finally get a couple pairs of shoes that would become a staple this Fall & Winter. I am a sucker for DSW and always find cute and affordable shoes. Because I'm petite I'm always looking for a shoe with a bit of a heel but don't go anywhere past the 2 3/4 in mark. I also struggle a lot with finding shoes that fit since I am between a 5.5 and a 6 US shoe size and often times find that a size 6 runs too big for my small feet.

These Madden Girl Hooper Chelsea Boots are perfect for dressing up or dressing down with fall basics such as the outfit down below. This shoe features a 1 3/4 inch stocked block heel, faux suede material, faux snake embossed trimmings, and a distressed metallic strip. Since DSW is always having a sale every week, I suggest checking out their website daily for any special offers/coupons they might have. Because I am a DSW rewards member, I am always receiving $5, $10, and $20 certificates by random via email. You can sign-up HERE and never miss a deal again! One thing I have to mention is that you can use up to 3!!! certificates per order and find that to be steal that you can't get anywhere else.

I have worn these shoes a couple of times since they arrived and they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn, their suede material and chunky heel are definitely made for walking and will add more style to any outfit. I am still debating on whether or not these shoes will be office work appropriate but it certainly does not hurt to find out. Stay tuned for more shoe posts from DSW!
